For the first time, the world’s biggest Vocational Education & Skills Excellence Competition will be organised in Latin America in Brazil, from 11 to 16 August, taking the honor after Leipzig 2013 and London 2011. The WorldSkills Competition, which has its origin in Europe, is held since 1950 and will hold its 43rd edition this year. WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 will be hosted at Anhembi Park, in São Paulo, and approximately 200,000 visitors are expected to watch 50 different skills, related to technical professions, with 1,200 Competitors from more than 50 countries.

With the biggest delegation ever at a WorldSkills competition, 26 European countries will send off 544 competitors. They have been selected after several pre-qualifications and are National Champions in their respective trade. Following months of preparation, they will now compete on a global stage for becoming this years Best of the World. Countries like France, the UK, Germany and Switzerland bring the biggest delegations per country, with more than 40 competitors per team.

At the last WorldSkills competition in 2013 the Korean team scored the highest average points with the Swiss team being runner up. It will therefore be interesting to see what is going to happen this time in Brazil. As the WorldSkills competition grows each edition, the competition itself becomes tougher each time. With more competitors to compete and growing quality standards, chances of winning a medal becomes an even bigger achievement than it already was.

Following the two year cycle, the next WorldSkills competition will be organised in Abu Dhabi in 2017. After that, three European countries; Belgium, France and Russia are bidding for the right to host the WorldSkills competition in 2019. At the end of the competition in São Paulo it will be announced which country will then be hosting the world’s biggest Skills competition.

In 2016 from 1-3 December EuroSkills, the 5th European Skills Competition, will be organised in Goteborg, Sweden. EuroSkills is a European event, held biennially in a different European member country. This European contest brings competitors under the age of 25 together, to compete with their equals in more than 40 different skills.
